Lower Extremity Amputee/Prosthetic Rehabilitation: A Team Approach

We're excited to offer you a chance to particpate in our hands-on lab course pertaining to Lower Extremity Amputee/Prosthetic Rehabilitation! We offer a full day of lectures from qualified prosthetic professionals Fred Lerche and Tom Quesenberry. Click either of their names to view their biographies.

Course Objectives Include:
  • Examine the physical therapist's role as a rehab team member in the management of patients with prosthetic needs.
  • Set-up pre- and post-prosthetic management programs for various level amputees including shaping and care of the residual limb, exercise and functional training based on patient's age and medical condition; including safety issues with ADL.
  • Identify principles of anatomy and biomechanics to evaluate prosthetic gait (videotaped) and differentiate between prosthetic and anatomical causes of abnormal gait patterns.
  • Make recommendations and provide direct training for amputees to correct prosthetic gait abnormalities.
  • Develop a comprehensive treatment plan for the amputee patient.
